First Encounter Beach

We went to a co-workers summer house on the Cape, and close by was First Encounter Beach. Below are a few photos from there.

Georges Island

Getting from Spectacle Island to Georges Island was a small chore since the ferry that took us was in poor shape and was heavily delayed on a trip before, because they took on too much water. The ferry finally came to the peir and we left.

Long Island Bridge in Boston Harbor, up close from the ferry.

On Georges Island you are struck by the Bunker that Fort Warren is and was. This cannon was set pointing out, one of the few that was left.

A view leaving Fort Warren from the inner assembly green.

Spectacle Island (Ferry)

Spectacle Island is a Boston harbor island that you get to with a short (15 min) ferry trip from near the aquarium.

Love that city!

Spectacle Island (Island)

After the 15 minute ferry ride from Boston, you are let off of ferry into a clean modern peir, with idyllic views of the city and the island. The view from a little up the path after getting off of the ferry.

One of the first things seen from the ferry that caught my eye are 2 yurts up on the path. These are shared by the park staff to sleep over night in.

With the wind the way it was, this made for excellent kite flying see below

Also, low flowers could not escape the wind.

Woodpeckers in odd places

I was biking home instead of driving and noticed this fellow on a lightpole. It is on an incline and you never see this because you are generally in a car. If you are on a bike though you end up huffing up a long incline, and this is close to the end of the incline. I happend to look up and saw this woodpecker feeding some chicks inside the lightpole.

Gas Prices

Gas prices these days seem to be going through the roof. Of course the taxes leviied in Europe make these prices a bargain, and I am sure that the prices will continue to rise ever higher as the demand for fuel outstrips the supply. Therefore bike more!

Spring Buds

Seems like spring has sprung... Trees are budding and the weather is warming. This also means that I am going to be sneezing soon. Sigh how I wish for the cold.
